Q: Why are the entire attendance zones for each of the high schools are not included?

A:  City boundaries are based on census blocks/tracts and cannot be based on the school districts.

Q: How were the boundaries of the city determined?

A: The boundaries of a city are determined in conjunction with and approved by Georgia's Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment Office.

"The Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment Office is a joint office of the Georgia General Assembly responsible for providing the General Assembly with redistricting services. The office uses data provided to the State of Georgia by the U.S. Census Bureau for the purpose of redistricting.  In addition to providing the technical assistance to redistrict, the office provides an array of maps and up to date data reports which include information on demographics, precincts, and local redistricting."

Census blocks/tracts are largely used to determine the geographic boundaries to create a cohesive map with the footprint centered on the intersection of Johnson Ferry and Roswell Roads. Every effort was also made to avoid having a boundary exclude portions of a neighborhood. The goal was to have neighborhoods, in their entirety, included, wherever possible while staying within the guidelines per the Reapportionment Office.
